Introducing the Japanese edition of the debut album by Tiana Khasi, a rising jazz/soul singer based in Australia, who has shared the stage with renowned artists such as Masego, Mndsgn, and 30/70.
Tiana Khasi, an artist from Brisbane, Australia, who has received immense support from The Kite String Tangle, Golden Vessel, and Sampology (signed to the same label), and whose songs have been streamed over 3 million times, is releasing her debut album "Meghalaya" through SWEET SOUL RECORDS. Her debut single "Nuketown" received critical acclaim from international media outlets such as Complex UK, BBC 1Xtra, and Worldwide FM, and was enthusiastically supported by Gilles Peterson, who was producing the compilation album "Brownswood Bubblers Thirteen" at the time. This demonstrates the global attention Tiana Khasi's first album is receiving. In an interview at the time of the album's release, Tiana Khasi described it as "a geographical and introspective album that attempts to show her place as an Australian with roots in the mountainous region of North India, and as a woman." Produced by Sampology, this miraculous work is based on a jazz and neo-soul soundscape, resonating with people's emotions while simultaneously incorporating sounds that evoke the mystical hills of India and the sophisticated coasts of Samoa, thus harmonizing these seemingly contradictory concepts of geographical elements and introspection. The social aspect of exploring self-identity in this work also appears to be an inevitable theme given Tiana's discography. The second single, "They Call Me," which employs jazz-like syncopation, is, as Tiana herself describes it, "a song protesting the discriminatory treatment women have received," and it is an ode to her own rebirth and to the women who have made it possible. This unique world of art, which wraps the extremely contemporary theme of identity exploration in sweet vocals and a profound jazz/soul sound, is a must-listen.
