Born in Tottenham, London, to Nigerian parents, singer/songwriter/producer Lemar grew up immersed in soul and R&B. He made his stage debut at 17, supporting Usher at a local church, and subsequently toured with various artists including Destiny’s Child, Total, and Uncle Sam. A few years later, he signed with BMG and released his debut single "Got Me Saying Ooh" in 2001. In 2003, he released his second single "Dance (With U)," which reached #2 on the domestic singles chart, and his first album "Dedicated," which included that song and two other singles. His energetic activities continued, and he won the "Best Urban Act" award at the BRIT Awards in 2004 and 2006, gaining significant attention. Now, Lemar, who has grown into a national singer in the UK, releases his latest work "The Letter" to the world, a monumental album celebrating 20 years of his musical career. Larry Klein, known for his work with Tracy Chapman, Norah Jones, and Joni Mitchell, was brought in as producer, along with a stellar lineup of backing musicians including Vinnie Colaiuta (Dr.), Jerry Hey (Tp.), and The Waters (Cho.), adding a brilliant flourish to the album. This is a definitive work of new generation classic soul.
