Next-Generation Sound from a Washington D.C.-Based Production Team Continuously Exploring New Approaches to Black Music

Columbia Nights is a Washington D.C.-based unit. They are a production team that is currently garnering attention for their unconventional sound that fuses soul, R&B, hip-hop, electronica, and jazz. Their career began when Hayling Price and John E. Daise, who had played in a band together during college, re-formed as a duo after graduation. After several years of production, the two created a unique sound that blends analog and digital elements, and harmoniously combines the contrasting worlds of light and shadow. They later met vocalist Sarai Abdul-Malik, who majored in jazz at Howard University, and with her strong support, their debut work "Dawn | Dusk" was completed. Highly acclaimed for this work, the two invited former bandmate Jason "BrotherSpanky" Edwards as a new member to further evolve their sound. With a fresh start, the new Columbia Nights explored an unprecedented and completely new approach, which resulted in the album "In All Things," now set for release in Japan. In this work, the three captivate listeners with sounds that suggest a wide range of influences from soul to fusion, hip-hop, and electronica, and a worldview that transcends genres. Their extraordinary sound, even praised by the Roy Ayers Project, conveys a clear energy that will push soul music significantly forward in the future.
