Kenny Allen (aka K'Alyn), originally from Washington D.C., is active mainly in Ethiopia. Also a singer for Dre Kay, he's a multi-talented multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter who was featured as a vocalist for Me'Shell Ndegeocello, touring the US, Europe, and Japan, and has also served for many years as the lead guitarist for R&B singer Raheem Devaughn. His album, "Free," was created in his home studio in 2010. Parisian producers David F° and Christophe Pittet were captivated by the sound and polished it further. In 2011, Kenny went directly to Paris, and the album evolved into a higher quality work thanks to world-class musicians, led by the accomplished drummer Roger Biwandu, who has played with Salif Keita, Frank McComb, and Marcus Miller, and also participated in Jeff Beck's recordings. "Free" (#3) features a slightly humid, pop melody reminiscent of Sting that gradually permeates, while "Another Friday Night" (#6) blends raps intertwined with an old-school beat reminiscent of A Tribe Called Quest, along with a bass and chorus line like Musiq Soulchild. "Relax Your Mind" (#8), which starts with a Jimi Hendrix-like guitar, features a slapping bass accent and flowing vocals that make your body sway. This highly anticipated album, poised to significantly elevate Kenny's career, is finally released in Japan!
